SASC Ottawa Fall Volunteering

The Sexual Assault Support Centre of Ottawa is looking for volunteers for our Fall 2019 Training session! Starting Saturday, October 5th, 2019 SASC Ottawa will be kicking off our Fall 2019 volunteer training.

Participants will learn skills around feminist-based peer support, anti-oppression practices, crisis line/individual and group facilitation skills + much more!

Data Entry Opportunity for New and Returning PAPM Students

Strategies North is launching a database/CMS near the end of the month and is looking for some students to do some data entry and research work. 

 The data entry is through a CMS called Drupal 8. Strategies North is looking for 2-3 students that are available for 3 in-person data entry sessions, where the first session will include a short orientation & training. Rate of pay is $15/hour and sessions will last 3-4 hours each. 

No prior experience is required, though research competencies are preferred.  

This is a great opportunity, particularly for 1st and 2nd year students to give their resumes an extra boost without much effort.

Carleton University Student Emergency Response Team (CUSERT) Recruitment

The Carleton University Student Emergency Response Team (CUSERT) is a volunteer service under the Campus Safety Services that provides 24/7 emergency medical response on campus. In addition, we provide first aid coverage at Carleton events as well as first aid training to the Carleton community. Our responders are student volunteers that come from a wide variety of backgrounds.

Student Library Advisory Committee

What is it?

The overall goal of the Student Library Advisory Committee is to enhance library services to better meet evolving student needs. We engage in open conversation about library resources and services.

Students on the committee will provide constructive feedback to help improve library resources, services, and physical and digital spaces. You will develop ideas for creating a better student experience at the library.

When does it meet?

We're planning to meet 5 times this year: 3 times in Fall Term and twice in Winter Term. The first meeting of the 2019/20 year will be Wednesday, September 25, from 1:30-3:00pm.

Expectations of Students:

  • Look for opportunities to improve our library and communicate the needs of students to library staff

  • Facilitate and strengthen communication between the library and the general student body

  • Participate in and/or help to recruit students for user research

  • Attend committee meetings

Council Membership

  • Up to 20 student members representing a broad cross-section of faculties and years of study from both undergraduate and graduate levels

  • Two library staff members, who will co-chair the group. The 2018/19 co-chairs are Maureen Leslie and Ryan Tucci. Depending on the issues to be discussed, other library staff members may be invited to meetings.

Operating Policies

Meetings will occur two or three times per term. Additional meetings may be called if required. Meetings will last 1 ½ - 2 hours, and snacks will be provided.

  • Co-chairs: library staff members will co-chair the group

  • Agendas: One co-chair calls for agenda items from all members

  • Notes: Notes will be taken at every meeting by one of the co-chairs. All meeting notes will be made publicly available after approval by the committee.

  • Library staff members will report to Library leadership and will provide updates to Library Committees as appropriate

  • There is no requirement for quorum for the committee.

Co-chairs are committed to transparency of process including reporting results of decisions related to student suggestions and ideas.

AKCESS Elections Committee

The Arthur Kroeger Educational Student Society is accepting applications for volunteers to make up our Elections Committee for the 2019 - 2020 academic year! We’re looking for honest, engaged, and disciplined students to protect the integrity and fairness of the AKCESS elections.

What does the Elections Committee do?

In the case of an appeal of an electoral decision of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) during an AKCESS election, the AKCESS Elections Committee will: meet within three business days of the request for appeal, review all available evidence, and render a recommendation on the appeal. The AKCESS Elections Committee can overturn a decision by the CEO by two-thirds majority.

AKCESS Social Committee

The Arthur Kroeger Educational Student Society is accepting applications for volunteers from all years to make up our Social Committee for the 2019 - 2020 academic year! We’re looking for cheery, organized, and self-motivated students to assist our executive with planning and delivering memorable events to the PAPM community.

There are THREE positions you can apply for:

- Chair of Events 
As Chair of Events, your responsibility will be to be the first point of contact for members of the Social Committee and to report to the VPs Social.

- Chair of Photography 
As Chair of Photography, your responsibility will be to attend events and to work closely with the VPs Communication to ensure AKCESS events are being captured creatively through photos and videos. All levels of experience are welcome to apply.

- Social Committee Member 
The Committee will be needed to support the VPs Social and the rest of AKCESS in areas such as logistical management, event planning, and on-site volunteering. We are also looking for two people to take leadership roles within the committee.
